Installation of pump inlet filters: Permanent filters should be installed on pumps with small clearance, such as screw pumps, gear pumps, plunger pumps, etc. One is installed on each unit, located between the shut-off valve and the pump inlet. Except when the fluid to be pumped is dirty or special requirements apply, centrifugal pumps generally do not have permanent filters, but a temporary filter for startup is required. A permanent filter can also be installed when the diameter is 40 or greater.
During the trial operation phase, a large amount of impurities were present in the pipes and were not completely purged. When such impurities (such as weld slag or dirt) enter the wear-resistant rings located along the pipeline, if their size is smaller than the gaps between those rings, they can pass through the gaps without causing any damage. And overly large impurities will get stuck in the middle and damage the wear ring. This ultimately leads to motor overload. Newly installed pumps these days generally come equipped with an inlet Y-filter, especially before the new installation is put into operation. There are usually several types such as barrel-type and plate-type. Before starting up a new installation, a wire mesh with a mesh size of around 100 mesh is installed over the existing φ8-10 holes. After the water testing phase for the new installation is completed, the filter needs to be taken apart for cleaning and the wire mesh removed.
