I have recently designed several towers with a diameter of 1,000 and a height of 20 meters. They are filled with 380KG/cubic meter of filler. However, when doing strength calculations, I found that many nozzles need to be reinforced. I asked a few colleagues and they said that no calculations were needed for the nozzles. They only needed to calculate the manholes. I don’t know what principle he was basing this on.

It is probably because the tower you designed has very small instrument interfaces except for the manholes. I guess they are all less than or equal to 50? 2. Generally speaking, projects have project regulations, which have detailed regulations on where the hole reinforcement needs to be calculated (the requirements are stricter than GB150). Yes, look at GB150, pipe holes with smaller diameters do not need to be reinforced. Pressure vessels with large diameters need to be reinforced. It is not necessary for pressure vessels. The thickening of the nozzle wall can play a reinforcing role, and the opening does not require additional reinforcement. Whether reinforcement is needed is calculated based on the size of your opening, design pressure, vessel wall thickness, nozzle wall thickness and nozzle length.
There are takeovers in GB150 that do not need to be reinforced separately, but other than that, they should be reinforced separately.
What LZ said is too simple, so you can't simply tell whether reinforcement is needed. There are some connecting conditions on GB150 that do not need to be reinforced by yourself. If some are not satisfied, you can not add a reinforcement ring, but perform reinforcement calculations to calculate the stress it will bear. If the excess area calculated by your shell is greater than the required reinforcement area for the opening, you can also pass without reinforcement. According to the tower calculation result I mentioned above, a thickness of 8 is enough, but the nozzles need to be reinforced (DN25 to DN300), especially if the tower kettle has a lot of nozzles, it will be ugly if all the nozzles are reinforced, and it will be unsafe if not added. We usually increase the wall thickness to solve the problem. It feels very wasteful.
It depends on whether it is a pressure vessel. If it is not a pressure vessel, it does not need to comply with GB150, and there is no need for reinforcement. Just design it as a normal pressure vessel. If it is a pressure vessel, generally GB150 stipulates that pipes with a nominal diameter of dn80 or less can be selected according to the regulations, and no additional reinforcement calculation is required. If it is dn80 or above, it needs to be calculated and determined.

Article 8.3 on page 75 of GB150-1998 has made it very clear. If one of the four requirements is not met, reinforcement calculations should be performed.
