Hello, everyone in this forum. Our company produces methanol from natural gas. As we are all aware, the current economic situation is tough; things are not easy for anyone these days~~~~~~~~~~~. I would like to ask the friends on this forum for their advice, and to share their insights regarding the downstream industry chain of methanol – where do they think it would be best to focus efforts in this field? For example: 1. Methanol------Acetic acid------Vinyl acetate------Polyvinyl alcohol, yarns, etc.; 2. Methanol------Olefins------Polyethylene or polypropylene------Plastics, films, etc.; 3. Methanol------Formaldehyde------Polyformaldehyde; 4. Methanol------Dimethyl ether. I hope brothers will share more of their opinions: handshake
Judging from the current situation, 1 and 2 seem okay, while the benefits of 3 and 4 are much worse
Be cautious with acetic acid – the market is already saturated. You can take route 2.
I believe the third approach should be taken for the following reasons: 1. Formaldehyde consumes a large amount of methanol – 440 kilograms of methanol are required per ton of formaldehyde. 2. Polyoxymethylene resin (POM) is a new type of material with high added value and great market potential; it is known as the \"king of plastics\". However, the related technology is controlled by foreign companies such as DuPont, BASF, and Mitsubishi Gas, and no mature technology exists in China
The acetic acid market has been largely dominated by large manufacturers; caution should be exercised when investing in acetic acid projects
Personally, I think the 4th approach is the way to go. Choose the best two-step method available at present; in particular, the combination of methanol plants and dimethyl ether plants not only finds a market for methanol but also reduces the cost of dimethyl ether, achieving two goals at once.
Market conditions change rapidly; investment projects need to be the subject of thorough research and consideration in light of practical realities
To reduce investment risks and increase project returns, the methanol industry abroad widely adopts advanced production and operation models that integrate resources, technology, and investment, thereby ensuring support in areas such as technology, raw material supply, and product sales. This approach helps to optimize various production factors to the greatest extent possible and enhance the competitiveness of investment projects. Therefore, China can draw on or adopt the experience of foreign countries, where investors, patent holders, sellers, and resource suppliers collaborate to build and operate such projects, and apply it to the implementation of methanol production projects in our province.
Enterprises in the same industry should collaborate to develop new energy-saving and efficient processes, equipment, and materials; fewer new chemical projects should be launched, and funds should be invested in bioengineering, water resources engineering, or agricultural and forestry engineering.
In the long run, I think 4 is better
