Should backup pumps be provided separately for both fire pump and pressure stabilizing pump? Are there any design examples available?
A backup pressure pump is necessary, but a backup fire pump is not.
Fire pumps should have backup power.
\"Code for Fire Protection Design of Buildings\": 8.6.8 A backup fire pump shall be provided for the fire pump system, and its capacity shall not be less than that of the largest fire pump in use. When the outdoor fire-fighting water demand for factories, warehouses, stockyards, and storage tanks is less than or equal to 25 L/s, or the indoor fire-fighting water demand for buildings is less than or equal to 10 L/s, a standby pump is not required. Explanation of the provision: 8.6.8 This clause sets out safeguards to ensure an uninterrupted supply of water for fire fighting. The flow rate and head of the fire backup pump selected for design should not be less than those of the largest operating pump in the fire pump room. A fire standby pump may not be required if one of the following conditions is met: 1. If the building is small in size, or there is little combustible material in the factory or warehouse, and the amount of water needed for firefighting is low, then a fire standby pump is not necessary; the water supply plan outlined in the fire fighting plan can be used instead. These specifications stipulate that factories, warehouses, or residential areas with an outdoor fire water demand of no more than 25 L/s may not require a backup fire pump. 2 For buildings with a small indoor fire water supply, which usually have a low fire risk or are smaller in size and lower in height, external rescue forces can be fully utilized; therefore, it may not be necessary to install a backup fire pump.
