I am a college graduate from the class of 2008; after starting work at my company, I was involved in instrument-related tasks. At first, I felt a bit lost, and I would like to ask everyone: where should I start? For field instruments and DCS control systems, where should I start learning from?* Thank you all
First, it depends on whether you are working in construction or design, as the focus and direction differ. However, no matter what the job is, I personally think it’s better to start with the on-site instruments. Relatively speaking, it’s still a bit easier. It’s best to look at the relevant specifications and combine them with practical considerations. You can also take a look at books like the mechanic’s manual
Start by becoming familiar with the process flow, and then examine the measuring instruments and control devices along the process pipelines to understand what their specific functions are, how they work, and what impact changes in parameters have on the process; What are the common process failures and instrument failures? (Ask senior employees) ; How many are there in total, automatic control loops and manual control loops? What are the complex automatic control loops, and which parameters influence each other? ; Remote or local control of electrical equipment – how to achieve it ; What are the process interlocks and electrical equipment interlocks, what harm can they cause to the processes and equipment, what is the state of the valves or equipment after an interlock action occurs, and how are these implemented in a DCS? Clarify these first, and then delve deeper into the working principles of various types of testing and control instruments, and so on. . . . . . .
