Some natural gas is mixed with a certain amount of air during transportation; what is the purpose of this? Please feel free to speak up!
I’ve heard of odorization in natural gas, and recently people have also mentioned adding N2 (of course, as a by-product of air separation units); it’s the first time I’ve heard of adding air. If it is to be added, my personal understanding is that the calorific value of natural gas is too high, so it needs to be reduced! :lol Last edited by mfjxg on 2009-2-13 08:48 ]
Is this a secret that the industry can’t talk about?
Pure natural gas has a too high calorific value (9000 KCAL); by adding some air, its calorific value can be reduced to around 7500 KCAL.
1) Blending adiabatic (low-calorific-value) gases: Adding nitrogen, air, or other gases with low calorific values to natural gas reduces its calorific value so as to achieve the target value we have set. 2) In cold regions, the use of natural gas can easily cause condensation inside the pipes, and the inclusion of air can **lower the dew point**. (Taught by the teacher when studying*)
Oxygenation is mainly beneficial for the desulfurization of natural gas at normal temperature in desulfurization plants. Oxygenation (with air) increases the O2/H2S ratio in natural gas, thereby raising the sulfur capacity of the desulfurizing agents at normal temperature. When this ratio exceeds 2.5, desulfurization and regeneration occur simultaneously, enabling continuous regeneration; the surface of the active iron is continuously renewed, and the working sulfur capacity can reach its maximum level.
