I just saw on a flow chart that some storage tanks are equipped with purge ports. Could someone tell me what the function of these purge ports is and under what circumstances they are needed?
It is mainly to remove the liquid or impurities from the storage tank using steam or nitrogen
It is mainly used to remove debris or residual oil during tank cleaning. Oil tanks designed these days generally have cleaning holes.
I’m not quite sure what the original poster means: if there are small-diameter valves on the cover of the cleaning hole or at the bottom of the tank, they are likely used to remove residues before maintenance, and can also be used to introduce steam into the tank. If used for line sweeping, it should be installed on the pipeline on the other side of the tank bottom valve
