Do any of you marine enthusiasts know what impact a too-thick secondary grouting layer around the compressor can have on its operation?
The thickness of the secondary grouting layer generally depends on the size of the equipment; provided that the installation requirements are met, it is preferable to have a smaller thickness rather than a larger one. Compressors generally experience significant vibration, and excessive thickness is not conducive to vibration reduction.
5.5.2 The secondary grouting shall meet the following requirements: a) The secondary grouting of the unit shall be carried out within 24 hours after the unit is aligned; if more than 24 hours pass, alignment shall be rechecked; b) The secondary grouting should be completed in one go; it must not be poured in layers, nor should any construction joints be left ; c) Set up formwork on the inner and outer sides of the machine base; if the base has adjustment screws, apply oil to them and cover them with plastic film or parchment paper ; d) Rinse the grouting area thoroughly with water, keep it moist for more than 12 hours, and then blow it clean ; e) Non-shrinking grouting material is recommended for secondary grouting ; f) The construction of the secondary grouting layer shall comply with the requirements specified in the technical documentation of the grouting material, and its height shall be 10 mm above the lower surface of the base ; g) After the curing period for the secondary grouting is complete, place dial gauges near the base foot bolts and on each coupling. Loosen the adjustment screws on the base and tighten the foot bolts; the variation in reading of the dial gauges at the base should not exceed 0.05 mm, while the variation at the couplings should not exceed 0.03 mm.
