What is the maximum transport temperature for the crude oil?
It is generally around 80°C; above 90°C, the pump may become evacuated
It is determined based on the properties of the crude oil: for low-viscosity light crude oils, the temperature should not exceed 40 degrees; for high-viscosity heavy fuel oils, a temperature of around 70 degrees is generally sufficient. A higher temperature leads to waste and makes pumping more difficult.
At high temperatures, the light components of crude oil tend to vaporize; therefore, the temperature must not exceed the flash point
The following information comes from Huang Chunfang or Sinopec Press. The maximum outlet temperature of crude oil is determined by two factors: 1. The corrosion-resistant coating on the outer wall of the pipeline must be able to withstand certain temperatures; generally, asphalt-based coatings can tolerate temperatures up to 75 degrees, while triple-layer PE coatings can handle temperatures up to 110 degrees, and so on. 2. The initial boiling point of the crude oil being transported – the initial boiling point of Daqing crude oil is 80 degrees, with other types of crude oil having values around this level. Therefore, national standards specify that the maximum outlet temperature for crude oil should be 70 degrees, with a maximum limit of 75 degrees. In the case of heavy oil, these two factors still need to be taken into consideration.
