We purchase mechanical equipment domestically for export to Japan, where the voltage is 440V, 60Hz, 3PH. The manufacturer specified a domestic motor of the YB2-225M-6 model, stating that it would meet the requirements. However, since this is our first time dealing with this manufacturer and their scale is small, we don’t trust them very much. May I ask now whether domestic motors are suitable for operating at 440V, 60Hz, and whether a special design is required? What issues need to be considered regarding this?
In motor design, silicon steel sheets are generally operated in the saturated region of the magnetization curve. When the supply voltage remains constant, reducing the frequency increases the magnetic flux and the excitation current, which in turn leads to an increase in motor current and copper losses. This results in an increase in the motor’s temperature; in severe cases, the overheating of the coils can cause the motor to burn out. However, increasing the frequency will raise the motor speed. However, the original load on the motor was 90% of its power rating; now the load **exceeds that rating, which causes the motor to heat up immediately. If the load does not exceed the rated power after increasing the speed, it can be used. Since the load driven by the motor has specific requirements regarding power and speed, it is recommended that you provide the relevant data to domestic motor manufacturers according to the foreign client’s requirements, so that they can redesign and manufacture the motors. However, the cost will be higher than that of ordinary domestic motors; therefore, careful selection of the motor manufacturer is necessary – it’s best to choose established state-owned enterprises or wholly-owned companies such as Shanghai ABB.
