There is a type of waste residue that contains 20% silicon – is it possible to purify the silicon from it? How can this be done? To be more specific, it’s manganese waste residue resulting from the leaching process in manganese electrolysis plants; our region refers to this area as the “Manganese Capital of the East” or the “Manganese Triangle”. I think the cost will be slightly higher compared to producing industrial silicon through the reduction of silica, and the resulting product will contain more metal impurities; I’m not sure whether it will be possible to remove these impurities through subsequent purification processes
It depends on what other impurities are present in your residue and whether they can be removed easily; if not, it might be better to reduce quartz with carbon.
If the other elements present have melting points that differ significantly from that of silicon, highly pure silicon can be obtained through crystallization techniques; High-purity silicon can also be obtained through metallurgical methods; these are all physical processes, and the energy consumption may be somewhat high ;
It is possible to purify silicon, but the cost is quite high; in other words, it makes no sense to purify silicon from waste material containing 20% silicon!
Because there is enough silicon ore available at the moment; silicon is not a scarce resource, so there’s no need to extract it from waste materials containing 20% silicon: lol
