Difference between fire roads and transport roads in tank farms
Transportation routes vary in terms of their construction standards and requirements depending on their grade. Fire roads are generally required to be circular with a width of six meters. In special cases or as an end station (where fire trucks can turn around), the width should be no less than three meters (? )! ! For reference only! ! :handshake :victory:

(1) Fire roads: The layout of fire roads must meet the following specific requirements: (1) The oil tank area is the most fire-prone part of a petroleum depot; therefore, a circular fire road should be established around it. In petroleum depots of grade 4 or 5, as well as those located in mountainous or hilly areas, where it is difficult to construct a circular road due to topographical or spatial constraints, end-style roads at the end of parking areas can be used instead. (2) The distance between the fire road and the foot line of the fire dike slope should not be less than 3 m. A fire fighting passage with a width of not less than 7m shall be provided between the footlines of the outer slopes of the fire dikes of adjacent tank groups. (3) The width of the fire road in the tank farm of a Class I petroleum depot should not be less than 6 m, and the turning radius should not be less than 9 m ; The width of the fire roads in the tank areas and loading/unloading areas of oil depots at other categories should not be less than 3.5 m. (4) Railway loading/unloading areas should have fire roads with a width of not less than 3.5 m, and these roads should preferably form a circular route together with other roads within the depot. When restricted by terrain, area, etc., it can be designed as a dead-end road with a parking lot. (5) Loading and unloading facilities for motor vehicle fuel tankers, as well as filling facilities for fuel drums, must be equipped with fire roads that ensure smooth access for fire trucks to the site of the fire ; (6) The width of the roads within the warehouse includes a compacted shoulder on the road side of at least 6 m. If there are roadside ditches, slope stabilization with retaining stones should be installed where possible. The road’s flatness, slope, subgrade, pavement, turning radius, and other aspects must all meet the design requirements. (7) Vehicle entrances and exits from the oil depot to the highway (excluding separate entrances and exits for administrative areas and highway loading/unloading areas): oil depots of grades I, II, and III should have no fewer than two such entrances and exits, while oil depots of grades IV and V may have one.
The roads within the oil depot shall comply with the following requirements: 1. An circular fire road shall be provided in the oil tank area of the oil depot. Oil depots of grade IV and V, as well as those located in mountainous or hilly areas, may also be without an end-style fire road at the back of the parking area. 2. The distance between the center of the oil tank and the nearest fire road shall not exceed 80 m ; A fire fighting passage with a width of not less than 7m shall be provided between the outer footlines of the fire dikes of adjacent tank groups. 3. The distance between the fire road and the base line of the outer embankment of the fire dike should not be less than 3 m. 4. Fire roads should be provided in the railway loading and unloading areas. 5. The fire roads in the railway loading and unloading area should form a circular road together with the roads within the warehouse; end-style roads at the back of the turnaround area can also be provided. 6. Loading and unloading facilities for vehicle fuel tanks, as well as filling facilities for oil drums, must be equipped with fire roads that ensure smooth access for fire trucks to the site of the fire. 7. The width of the road surfaces in the tank areas and loading/unloading areas of primary oil depots for fire protection purposes should not be less than 6 m, while for secondary oil depots, this width should not be less than 4 m. 8. The turning radius of the fire roads in the tank farm and loading/unloading areas of Class I oil depots should not be less than 12 m. 9. The vehicle entrances and exits from the oil depot to the highway (excluding separate entrances and exits for the highway loading/unloading area) should be no fewer than 2 for oil depots of grades 1, 2, and 3, and 1 may be sufficient for oil depots of grades 4 and 5. 10. Trees should not be planted between fire roads and fire dikes. Greening within the oil depot should not hinder fire-fighting operations.
The safety distance between the transportation road and structures first meets the requirements of fire roads; furthermore, the pavement strength of the transportation road is much greater than that of fire roads, allowing it to support heavy vehicles.
The width of the fire access road for grade I oil depots should not be less than 6 m, and the turning radius should not be less than 12 m
