I am planning to conduct a dynamic distillation simulation for a distillation unit recently, and the question is I’m not sure which software would be suitable Which is more suitable, gPROMS software or Aspen software? I would appreciate some advice from those who are more experienced! Thank you!
HYSYS has strong dynamic simulation capabilities.
Of course, gPROMS is the most professional option. A major advantage of gPROMS is that it allows you to model the programming of chemical unit processes, by establishing dynamic differential equations along with boundary conditions, which makes it suitable for dynamic simulation during engineering scale-up. But I think when doing dynamic distillation simulation, there’s no need to focus primarily on modeling the distillation process, as the distillation models built into standard software are already very sophisticated. So if your work does not involve engineering scaling or high requirements, Aspen will suffice.
Previously, Hysis was preferred for distillation simulations, but since it was acquired by ASPEN, ASPEN seems to be the preferred choice now. To be honest, we use ASPEN for software simulations these days, and these software programs are more or less similar to each other; the results they produce are acceptable

GProms are recommended, but there is very little information available online regarding their use; therefore, if requirements are not high, Aspen can be considered
