We are also producing methanol from coke oven gas, on a scale of 100,000 tons. However, I’m not quite sure about the overall carbon conversion rate; I’ll send that information in a few days
For the overall C conversion, in typical coal the C conversion rate can reach 95%; after the reaction, aside from about 20% of CO2 being released, all the remaining carbon is converted into methanol. (The gas composition is adjusted through purification, with CO separated via deep cooling.) Additionally, methanol synthesis releases about 1% of C as off-gases. So 85% of C in our plant is converted into products CO and methanol
The total carbon conversion rate is related to system pressure, space velocity, and catalyst activity. Generally, the overall carbon conversion rate for producing methanol from coke oven gas is at most 95%. It is generally around 90%.
