Let’s discuss whether the DCS system for the new project (methanol) should use HONEYWELL’s EPKS or TPS Also, does ITCC use TRICON or ICS? ； Which company’s ESD is used? TPS has good stability, while PKS has better compatibility and scalability.
For DCS, either HONEYWELL’s EPKS or TPS will work just fine; it depends on your configuration preferences. As for ITCC, it’s better to use TRICON, as it offers superior safety and stability and is easier to maintain.
EPKS is a new DCS system launched by Honeywell in recent years; ITCC is still better than TRICON
If you use Honeywell’s DCS, then for the emergency shutdown system ESD, use Honeywell’s FSC.
Any DCS can be chosen; the decision mainly depends on performance records and engineering capabilities. This saves the owner a lot of hassle. For ITCC, TRICON is a good choice – it has extensive experience and excellent performance records. I’ve checked it out, and it’s one tier above ICS. For ESD, Honeywell products are a good choice; TRICON and Black Horse options are also excellent.

There is no need for a company’s control system to use many different brands. If financial conditions permit, it is recommended to continue using TRICON for DEH systems; if domestic control systems are used for the boilers and turbines, then it is completely fine to use domestic DEH systems as well. Additionally, if Honeywell’s DCS is used, it is recommended to opt for TPS, as it offers higher reliability; there were some server failures with PKS in the previous couple of years, but these issues may have been resolved by now. If it is Honeywell’s DCS and TRICON’s ITCC, then for ESD purposes, either of these two options can be chosen; Honeywell’s FSC system is also a very good safety system. There’s no need to talk about TRICON – it was originally designed for safety systems, but it entered the Chinese market in large numbers by using ITCC as its selling point.
My suggestion is to use the C300 controller from EPKS; it is a system recognized by Sinopec, and it comes with comprehensive functions. Although TPS is said to be stable, it is more difficult and complicated to maintain.
