May I ask which of you in Sichuan uses sulfur submersible pumps? Is the pump body made of carbon steel, stainless steel, or cast iron? ? Which manufacturer’s is better? ?
The liquid sulfur pumps in sulfur recovery units often fail, with problems mainly occurring in the jacket section. Currently, the domestically produced ones are not up to standard; we use imported ones, namely KSB from France and Lewis from the United States.

Our factory uses liquid sulfur lift pumps made by Dalian Dahuahai. As they say, the jackets of these pumps tend to develop problems; therefore, such pumps usually run continuously. Once they stop running, the liquid sulfur solidifies, making it very difficult to start them up again

Our sulfur acid production plant uses a large number of sulfur pumps, and the technology related to these pumps is now quite mature. Our company has over 10 vertical sulfur pumps, all of which are from Dalian; for horizontal pumps, we use shielded pumps manufactured by Shanghai Nikkiso, and they are all of excellent quality.
Domestic submersible sulfur pumps also have fairly mature technology; their materials are usually stainless steel. Sulfur is weakly acidic, and when selecting a pump it is necessary to consider the level of impurities present in the sulfur – higher levels of impurities pose more problems.

Sulfur submersible pumps are made of stainless steel; carbon steel cannot be used. There are small amounts of organic acids in liquid sulfur, which cause significant corrosion. Even though sodium carbonate is added during the sulfur dissolution process to neutralize these acids, it is difficult to completely eliminate the problem of corrosion. Cast iron is certainly not suitable for use, as its quality is too low and it presents many operational issues.
The current operating conditions for sulfur pumps fall within the scope of centrifugal pumps, and the relevant technology is already quite mature. The only differences are higher flow rates, greater head pressure, and longer submersion depths; by understanding these operating conditions and taking appropriate measures, such problems can be completely avoided. Early sulfur pumps were all of low flow rate and high head (the flow rate was less than one cubic meter, while the head was nearly 100 meters or even more; those with long shafts and submersible designs presented even greater risks and difficulties). Jacketed sulfur pumps are already well-developed in China. Looking at sulfur-based acid production and sulfur recovery units in China, those from abroad are few in number; moreover, not all foreign products are necessarily of poor quality. The key is to choose the right manufacturer and the right brand.
