The 200,000-ton-per-year dimethyl ether production facility of Yongmei Group’s Longyu Coal Chemical Industry successfully completed its initial trial run, producing dimethyl ether with a purity of up to 98%. It is reported that this is the first project to commence under the second phase of the Longyu Coal Chemical Project, whose total planned investment amounts to 7.5 billion yuan. The project required an investment of 180 million yuan; it took only 192 days, from the start of construction of the dimethyl ether production facility in April 2008 to the production of dimethyl ether on November 20th. Once the project is put into operation, it will effectively alleviate the pressures associated with methanol production and inventory, expand the profit margins of the coal chemical industry, and further balance the market while enhancing control over sales. Meanwhile, the preliminary work for the 400,000-ton per year acetic acid production project as part of the second phase is also being carried out at full pace. Dimethyl ether is an important downstream product of methanol, primarily used as a refrigerant, solvent, and fuel. It also has wide applications in industries such as pharmaceuticals and dyes.
