We have a **furan pressurized distillation system**; the tower contains a **furan aqueous solution**. Pressuring the system changes the azeotrope composition – the product THF is obtained at the bottom of the tower, while the **furan aqueous solution** is present at the top. The pressure in the tower bottom is set at 0.45 Mpa. During production, the system pressure fluctuates sharply from normal levels, resulting in very unstable pressure conditions. It’s not clear what the reason is.
There are many reasons for pressure fluctuations inside the tower: 1. Whether the reflux is stable; 2. Whether the feed flow is stable; 3. Whether the temperature of the steam or heat transfer oil used for heating the bottom of the tower is stable; 4. Whether the parameters of the pressure control valve, which is used for automatic pressure regulation, are set properly
If the tray becomes fouled and its porosity decreases, this can also cause fluctuations in tower pressure.
I have checked and tested all aspects; there are no abnormalities. Now I’ll try cleaning the packing. It’s most likely caused by residual salt buildup; I’ll report the results once it’s resolved.
The issue is reported as follows: we changed the water pipes, which resulted in uneven flow rates of the condensate water at the top of the tower. Didn’t expect that, right?
