The sieve plate tower has a liquid accumulation tray; what is its function?

In the design of distillation columns, trays and plates are distinct from each other. Trays are a general term for the areas within a distillation column where gas and liquid come into contact for mass and heat transfer; they include the tray plates along with their accessories, such as downcomers, collection trays, and gas-liquid distribution devices (floating valves, etc.). The tray is the carrier of the gas-liquid distribution device. Under normal circumstances, when the gas-liquid flow rate in the distillation column exceeds the flooding line, it causes flooding in the downcomer, disrupting the normal operation of the column. And if the normal operating range of the tray is wide, there will be a liquid accumulation tank
