Experience with professional exams: I passed the professional exam in 2008, and my score was quite high. Below, I’ll share my experience with these exams, in the hope that it can help those who are taking them this year. 1. Bring plenty of reference materials. A significant portion of the content in professional exams is not covered in the four main textbooks; it can be found in manuals on water supply and drainage, as well as those related to waste management. Some questions are actually taken straight from these manuals. It is said that in 2007, there were also some questions that were identical to those in the manuals. Experience has shown that if you bring all the necessary materials, it’s easy to score 8 extra points on the first day and 4 extra points on the second day. For example, the textbook on industrial wastewater covers only a limited amount of information, but the case studies on the second day were very detailed; the information needed could be found easily in the wastewater section of the waste management manual (unfortunately, I didn’t bring that manual with me). Another example: on the first day’s exam, at least two multiple-choice questions related to solid waste were not covered in the textbooks, but they could be found directly in the reference index of the waste management manual.2. The exam time is extremely tight. Many people couldn’t finish all the questions on the first day, and even more so on the second day. There wasn’t enough time to consult the textbooks on the first day, and on the second day, there wasn’t enough time to draft answers – people had to write them directly on the exam paper. Even then, time was still insufficient. In short, it’s necessary to thoroughly study the several textbooks on the first day; if you can recall certain knowledge points without referring to the books, you’ll save some time. 3. Pay attention to the third volume of the textbooks. A considerable amount of content in the professional exams comes from the third volume. Although I passed with a decent score, I still lost many points due to this volume. At that time, I focused mainly on studying the first and second volumes, thinking that the third volume contained mostly standard regulations and that fewer questions would come from it. There are incorrect questions in the test; one question on noise from 2008 was a multiple-choice question, but only one answer was correct. So when encountering such questions, do not waste time on them. 8. The questions related to noise are relatively straightforward; mastering them can help earn more points, and the knowledge involved is also simple. If the exam covers solid waste and air pollution topics, it’s essential to pay close attention to them. 9. Repeating the solid waste system question a few times should be enough to get a reasonable score, as solid waste is relatively the simplest topic. If your knowledge of water and air issues is not good, then you must prepare thoroughly for the solid waste exam. 10. Radiation hardly needs to be considered.
