What kind of welding process is electric-fusion welding (EFW)?

In the title of the A358 standard, it is referred to as Electric-fusion welded (EFW) pipes; in Chinese, this is translated as electric fusion welding. The standard specifies that welding must be carried out using fusion welding, and a filler wire must be used in this process. What exactly is the EFW welding process? What are the differences between it and the fusion welding methods we’re familiar with, such as manual welding, TIG welding, submerged arc welding, etc.?
