Our company has built a new 200,000-ton high-pressure hydrogenation unit, which is set to begin trial production soon. Many of the workers have been transferred from the atmospheric and vacuum distillation units, and it’s time to determine their salary rates now. We would like to know how much the salary differences are between those working in hydrogenation units and those in atmospheric and vacuum distillation units. Since they are all wage earners, those working in high-temperature and high-pressure hydrogenation units are particularly concerned about their compensation. Please help us by providing relevant information; we need this data to discuss with the relevant departments in the company

Your hydrogenation process includes atmospheric and vacuum distillation, just like in our company. Could you tell me something about the salary structure there?
It should be higher than that of devices operating at normal pressure, as the risk level is much higher: devices with high pressures and high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide are more dangerous, while those operating at normal pressure are safer and more stable; here, the difference in compensation between these two types of devices is around 500 yuan.
In many places, there are good benefits associated with working in distillation and vacuum processing units, as these areas are considered key areas; there are many officials from there, so people receive some preferential treatment. It also depends on the position; for example, the salary for those working in external pumps for atmospheric and vacuum distillation is generally lower. However, the basic benefits at the same factory generally don’t vary that much.
The compensation is set by the company’s management, with no fixed standards. I think it’s similar to having a side job here – the only difference is that there’s a greater chance of deductions in this case, while side jobs have fewer such chances; otherwise, everything is the same, and people lack motivation
The production and safety requirements for hydrogenation positions are higher than those for atmospheric and vacuum distillation positions, and a greater sense of responsibility is required in operating them. However, talent can emerge in any position – as long as you perform well, you will earn more regardless of the position; if you don’t perform well, you won’t earn much even in the most important positions. It’s not the position that determines the salary; it’s competence that decides everything!
In fact, all types of petrochemical plants carry risks. Our compensation here depends mainly on technical skill, with little difference between different types of plants!
