One of our fiberglass desulfurization towers has a diameter of 5 meters and a height of 22 meters. At present, a steel structure platform needs to be built around it. It is said that fiberglass is flammable, and therefore protective measures must be taken around the exterior of the fiberglass tower during the welding of the steel structure, in order to prevent welding slag and other elements from damaging the fiberglass. Let you finish saying it all! By the time the steel platform is ready, the fiberglass has basically cured, which reduces the risk to some extent. However, this small factor by no means means that isolation and covering measures can be omitted. Fire extinguishers are powerless under those conditions; a fire hose that can be used properly is needed to back them up!
Glass fiber reinforced plastic used for landline phones is generally not flammable, but it can cause a fire when exposed to an open flame; therefore, it is necessary to remove flammable materials from the surrounding area and on the ground, and to have firefighting equipment ready. Additionally, water can be sprayed on the surface of the glass fiber reinforced plastic regularly to keep it moist.

In cases like this, you can follow this approach: instead of welding, find a steel structure manufacturer who can design one for you. It’s a piece of cake for them to build a small tower about 20 meters tall; it can be welded right in the factory, and then transported to the construction site where it can be assembled using screws!
