I’m seeking advice from experts: What standards can be referred to in order to find out the allowable pressure drop for hydraulic testing of industrial pipes, or what formula can be used to calculate it? Please let me know, thank you!
I checked the standards, SH3501-02 and GB-50235; it seems that leaks are not allowed in industrial pipelines. As far as I remember, leaks are only permitted during the hydrostatic testing of water supply and drainage pipelines.
Thank you to the person above; I also checked the standard ASME B31.3, and it doesn’t mention anything regarding the allowance for pressure drops. However, during hydrotesting, it’s often not possible to completely remove all air from the system, and even if there are no leaks in the pipes, a pressure drop can still occur.
Our unit recently acquired a heat exchanger of the type with double tube passes and fixed tube sheets. The hydraulic test pressure for the tube passes is 0.75 MPa; after holding this pressure for 30 minutes, the pressure drops by 0.03 MPa. As the holding time increases, the pressure loss continues, but it becomes less and less significant. There was no leakage throughout the process, but the supervisor didn’t let it go. For some reason, I’m not sure what’s going on; could someone please give me some advice? Thank you!
Indeed, the voltage drop is absolute. For example, during valve pressure testing, a certain level of leakage is allowed (as specified in the tables). Pressure testing has a time limit; it’s not possible to maintain the pressure for an extended period of time without restrictions. The specifications require that \"the pressure be maintained for a sufficient time; no drop in pressure indicates compliance.\" The “sufficient time” here refers to the time it takes you to complete all the inspection tasks.
