Is it mandatory to buy books when registering for the Professional Title English Test? We not only force people to buy books but also force them to undergo training (by charging training fees)
I’m from Sichuan; it’s not mandatory. That day I passed by the personnel examination center and wanted to buy some books; the staff said they wouldn’t sell them without a reservation. I bought it at a bookstore later. Training is not mandatory either, but many people are encouraged to attend through phone calls and text messages.
I’m from Xinjiang; there’s no coercion – it’s all to make things easier for myself; when I want to review something, I take the initiative to find and buy the books myself. OPs, you are really lucky; it’s mandatory, and it’s almost impossible not to pass the professional English exam.
In Shuozhou, Shanxi, when registering for the professional title English exam, it is not mandatory to buy books; one can choose not to do so； However, for mandatory training, a fee of around 100 or so has to be paid, and most people who paid the fee were unable to attend the training for various reasons, resulting in the money being wasted.

It wasn’t mandatory either; back then I borrowed books purchased by colleagues from the previous year, studied a bit, and then took the exam and passed it. Since dictionaries were allowed in the examination room, the questions didn’t seem too difficult. For words that I didn’t know or was unsure about, I could look them up in a dictionary, provided that I had enough time.
