The flash point of light oils can be predicted and calculated using Enneberg distillation range data; I found various linear calculation methods in API manuals, books, and literature. But the formulas vary among different units; even after performing unit conversions to standardize them, for some reason? (1) To calculate the flash point value Tf/°C: 0.69 * T10% – 71.2
(2) To calculate the flash point value Tf/°F: 0.69 * T10% – 118.2
(3) To calculate the flash point value Tf/K: 15.48 + 0.70704 * T10%
Formulas (1) and (2) can be unified, but formula (3) is different from the first two; it’s unclear where this formula comes from and what its scope of application is I am not very familiar with the process simulation software ASPEN, and I’m not sure whether there is a method in this software to link the models of the two I hope to get everyone’s guidance. Thank you!
Why isn’t anyone responding? Is there no one who works in oil refining?
The flash point is closely related to the properties and composition of oils; it is impossible to derive an empirical formula that can be applied universally by simply summarizing a large amount of experimental data. . . If it is only used for simulation calculations. . . A certain level of accuracy is sufficient. . . There is no need to strive for consistency between the calculated data and the actual test results. . . . :lol
ASPenPLUs performs simulated calculations for flash point values, whereas such calculations are not included in regular process simulations. . . The flash point data for various types of oils obtained in the feasibility study are generally values derived from tests or pilot and scale-up experiments. . . :lol
For the simulation calculations of ASPEN flash point values, is it done in routine process simulations? Actually, I’m not concerned about that; what interests me is how ASPEN calculates flash points – after all, there is a specific algorithm used for this purpose. What kind of formula is it?
I’d like to ask the experts: how does Aspen calculate the flash point of oils? Are there any tutorials available?
