I would like to ask what are the speed ratio ranges for each of the two speed reduction methods: gearboxes and belts?
From personal experience, the range of reducers is fairly wide; it depends specifically on the power level and the type of motor. If the belt ratio is too low, the high rotation speed will be too much for the belt to handle.
Gearboxes of different types, models, and specifications have a quite wide range of transmission ratios. It can range from one-digit numbers to three-digit numbers or more. The transmission ratio of a flat pulley is relatively low, mainly due to the fact that the small pulley has such a small wrap angle that the power transmitted is very low, or even slipping occurs. The typical gear ratio ranges from 1 to 4; even with the addition of a tensioning wheel, the increase is not significant. It is almost never the case that the transmission ratio of flat belt drives exceeds 7–8.
Starting a long-distance conveyor belt should be somewhat difficult; in that case, considering the use of a soft starter or an inverter might be a good option. Soft starters have a soft shutdown function, while frequency converters have a speed control function.
Belt drives have low efficiency and inaccurate transmission ratios; they are generally not used in high-power applications. The speed ratio for flat belts is usually less than 3, while that for V-belts is less than 7. Gearboxes offer a wider range of transmission ratios and more precise ratios, making them widely used, but they are not suitable for situations where the distance between the two drive shafts is large
