Let’s discuss what is key to being a piping engineer: is it practical experience, standards, or the use of software? Which of these is the most important?
When it comes to design, intuition is quite important. It’s like when you need to renovate your home – how would you go about designing it? In chemical piping design, I believe experience is the most important factor; the more you see and do it, the more experienced you naturally become. Standards also stem from practice; if one understands why such standards are needed, then the standard itself is of good quality.
In my opinion, experience is the most important thing. Software standards are merely tools and constraints for design; knowing when one’s own work meets these constraints, and how to proceed during the design process to express the design concept in the most time-efficient and straightforward way – all of this comes from accumulated experience. Therefore, I believe experience is indeed the most crucial factor.
Interest, patience! Standard application.
Piping work requires a holistic perspective so that the pipe layout is logical and aesthetically pleasing. On-site experience is very important; without it, there are many more conflicts between piping work and other specialties, which leads to more on-site modifications.
Everything is important; focus on what you need urgently first. Learn what you need to use, and make up for any deficiencies. It is important to cultivate interest. Whether one can learn well and quickly depends entirely on oneself!
Practice and standards are of course the most important!
Piping work is the most labor-intensive among all engineering design specialties; one must be determined before undertaking the design of piping for a particular area. Piping involves many specialized fields; it almost requires the expertise of all other specialties. Every pipe requires careful attention and patience. In piping drawings, each dimension represents a certain concept; sometimes it is necessary to check each dimension one by one, which requires a lot of patience. During the project construction, it was found that all the design requirements were met; most of the changes involved the piping system. But there’s no need to worry – the pipes can always be installed properly.
It’s mainly experience, an understanding of space, knowledge of operating conditions, and an awareness of the basic aspects of various specialties – things that cannot be acquired without at least 5 years of experience.
To work in piping, one must first be familiar with the relevant standards and regulations. It’s also important to work on as many projects as possible to learn quickly through experience, as experience is directly related to one’s working hours
Theoretical knowledge (standards) is certainly important, but practical experience on site is even more crucial. Some people work in design firms dealing with piping systems; after working there for several years, they still never see the actual prices of pipes. How can they do a good job in piping work if they lack a practical understanding of pipe fittings?
