The design of this gas separator

At work, I saw a crude gas washing and separation unit designed by foreigners. In the process diagram, a branch pipe was indicated at the point marked “free drain” on the pipe leading into the crude gas washing unit, connecting to the bottom of the separator; I’m not sure what the purpose of this is Also, how should the liquid level of the separator be set?
1# lflsedin This branch pipe is likely used when the lotion dispenser is not in use. Liquid level: 50% 15---80%. Because when the liquid level is too low, the bottom valve closes automatically, causing the level to rise on its own.
