The sulfur content in several of our plant’s platinum catalyst tanks is higher than ever before, reaching 534PPM. Our facility uses semi-catalytic reforming; after that, there is an aromatic extraction unit. The aromatics are sent to the PX unit, while the non-aromatic compounds are used to produce solvent oils of type 6 and 120. This sudden increase in sulfur content raises questions about its potential impact on the operation of the facility. Everyone who is interested is welcome to discuss this issue!
If the raw material in the platinum tank is used as feed for the pre-hydrogenation reaction aimed at reforming, then this sulfur content should not be a problem. The key is to determine the reason for the increase in sulfur content; there is concern that other types of oil might have mixed in, so it’s best to analyze the boiling range and composition of these raw materials to assess the situation.
