When installing cable trays, do people think it’s better to have holes at the bottom or no holes? Is it better for the equipment to be lower or higher than the cable tray? If the voltage of the equipment is low, and water from the cable tray enters the equipment through the conduit, it could damage the equipment. So what measures should be taken to avoid this?
It isn’t that important whether there are holes at the bottom of the cable tray, as when designing the path for the cable tray it’s best to avoid humid environments and to use dry areas as much as possible. If the equipment is located low, I’ve used a solution involving using longer cable ducts, so that their exit point is even lower than the level of the equipment
There are installation specifications: those that are higher than the equipment pipes and have holes at the bottom are electrical cable trays, while those without holes are instrumentation cable trays
When the cable tray is installed and used outdoors, it is better to choose one with holes to prevent water from accumulating inside the tray. When the equipment is located at a low position, it is recommended to use buried pipes to lead the cables to the equipment. If cable trays must be used, it is also advisable to use buried pipes to connect the cable trays to the equipment as well.
There is water inside the cable tray, but the conduit wires pass through from the side; it is not allowed for them to pass through from the bottom of the tray. The water will not spill out of the cable tray, unless the construction was not done properly
Those with holes at the bottom are not necessarily electrical trunking; electrical applications usually use trapezoidal trunking, while instrumentation applications use tray-type trunking, which in turn comes in both hole-equipped and hole-free versions.
If the level of the liquid is low, a three-way wiring box can be added to prevent liquid from entering the instrument.
Whether there are holes at the bottom of the cable tray is not the key issue. As for water inside the wire conduit, generally speaking, a tee wire conduit box can be used as a replacement for an elbow wire conduit box to solve this issue.

It doesn’t matter whether the cable tray has holes or not; all the instrument cable trays I’ve seen have no holes. I’m not sure if having holes would damage the shielding. If you want to prevent water from getting into the instrument, just add a three-way wire gland
