In Baotou District, Inner Mongolia in the north, is insulation necessary for the large sulfuric acid tank designed to hold 5,000 tons?
It depends on whether the acid used is 98% or 93%. If it’s 93%, no insulation is needed; but if it’s 98%, insulation is necessary, otherwise it will crystallize in winter
Whether sulfuric acid needs to be kept at a constant temperature depends on the temperature conditions in your factory, as well as on the concentration of sulfuric acid being produced. Generally, 93% sulfuric acid begins to crystallize at -27 degrees Celsius, while 98% sulfuric acid crystallizes between 0 and 2 degrees Celsius. If sulfuric acid crystallizes, it becomes very difficult to transport it.
In my personal opinion, if the local minimum temperature exceeds -20° and persists for an extended period, it is best to use insulation and heating. It’s best not to use it, but once it freezes, it becomes a problem. In winter, the temperature drops below zero for only about 30 days, so we only insulated the pipes; we didn’t insulate the large tanks. Anyway, it depends on the specific situation; it’s fine not to insure it for now. If it’s needed, it can be insured in just a week.
It is still very cold in the Baotou area in winter; therefore, 98% sulfuric acid requires insulation and heating.
