How loud is the noise of the air compressor? It is said that new air compressors such as Ingersoll-Rand or Atlas Copco are very quiet; thanks to their built-in sound insulation features, they do not need to be placed in a separate soundproof room and can be installed outdoors. Do any of you who have used these machines know how loud they are in actual use? What is the noise level in decibels? ?

The Ingersoll Rand screw air compressor MSC55-8.0 that we are using is located outdoors, but a simple shelter has been built around it; this is not for sound insulation, but to prevent freezing and condensation in winter. The noise level at the site is indeed not high; it’s probably around 70 dbA.
The noise level of screw compressors is generally between 65-80 dbA. The lower the power of the motor used, the less noise there is. For high-power machines, those with a power of over 110 KW, the noise level can exceed 80 dbA.
When speaking outdoors, it’s sufficient to use a volume slightly higher than normal so that the voice can be heard clearly; indoors, one needs to speak at a louder volume. I’m not sure if you can understand this analogy
Today’s screw compressors generate little noise and vibration; they are much quieter than the piston compressors that were used in the past!
Ingersoll Rand’s screw compressors have a noise level of around 70 dB(A); the screw compressors produced by other higher-quality manufacturers also have levels in the range of 70–80 dB(A). Centrifuges generate more noise, with levels around 75–80 dB(A)
Large centrifugal air compressors are still quite large in size, and even top-tier compressor manufacturers such as Atlas and Ingersoll Rand cannot avoid this issue; the noise level can reach over 90 decibels, mainly due to the loud noise generated by the high-pressure motors. According to representatives from Atlas, they have a solution involving the use of enclosures to house the compressors, thereby achieving better sound insulation.
