Which weld joints require welding procedure qualification?

Welding procedure qualification shall be carried out for all weld joints of the pressure-bearing components on pressure vessels. Before welding pressure vessel products, the manufacturing unit shall conduct welding procedure qualification for the butt joints of the pressure-bearing components, as well as for the T-joints or corner joints that require full penetration; for the T-joints or corner joints between pressure-bearing components and non-pressure-bearing components that bear loads; and for the corrosion-resistant surfacing layers of the pressure-bearing components.
During the manufacturing of containers, all weld joints should undergo a welding procedure qualification to assess the reliability of the welding.
Article 67 of the \"Regulations on Safety Technical Inspection of Pressure Vessels\" stipulates that prior to welding pressure vessel products, a welding procedure qualification must be carried out for the butt weld joints between pressure-bearing components, as well as for the T-joint welds that require full penetration; for the fully penetrated T- or fillet weld joints between pressure-bearing components and non-pressure-bearing components that bear loads; and for the corrosion-resistant surfacing layers on pressure-bearing components.
In practical work, the assessment of butt welds is more common; that is, there are many assessments for Class A and B welds, and many Class C/D welds can also be covered. Sometimes type tests are conducted. It depends on the specific situation of the company.
