If the oil and gas sources and the pipeline transportation are handled by different companies, then should a commercial meter be installed at the oil and gas source site, and another commercial meter at the first station of the pipeline system? Moreover, should the metering system at the starting station of the long-distance transmission system be placed before the compressors at that station or before the exit of the station?
It is generally not necessary at the first station; if one needs to be installed, a dedicated cumulative flow meter should be set up at the dock. Generally, preliminary settlement is carried out at the terminal station.
Since the gas source and the pipelines belong to different entities, measurement devices must be installed at both the gas source and the pipeline’s starting point. Of course, the basis for trade measurement is still the flow meter at the gas source; the starting point is there merely for measurement purposes, to help determine the accuracy of the gas source. The first station is generally located upstream of the compressor, as there are also losses or uses within the station itself, such as for natural gas compressors or internal station use. Of course, since the pressure is high after the compressor, the diameter of the gauge body can be reduced appropriately, but the gauge body must be able to withstand high pressures.
