A pitot tube measures fluid flow based on the principles of Bernoulli’s equation; the flow rate is determined from the pressure difference between the front and rear sections. It has a simple structure and is relatively inexpensive, but it requires a differential pressure transmitter. Although simple, its measurement accuracy is not high. As a result, although it can be used for measuring the flow rate of gases and liquids, it has generally been replaced by more accurate flow measurement methods. Currently, pitot tube flow meters are mainly used for measuring the flow rate of dirty fluids or smoke streams where high precision is not required.
