Dear experts, I am working on the research of hollow fiber membranes for carbon dioxide absorption. For experimental purposes, we need to test the mechanical properties of PP fiber membranes. Do you know how to prepare the samples and on what equipment such tests should be conducted? I majored in mechanical engineering, but I was assigned a research topic that no one in this faculty was familiar with, so I’m completely new to it. If any siblings know the answer, please help me out. Thank you. Additionally, if the membrane filaments soaked in solution are to be tested using SEM, what should be the sample preparation procedure? I used to rinse it in deionized water and then dry it with paper, but the teacher said that was wrong; he didn’t know either how to prepare the sample. Thank you! 1 I think it can be tested on a tensile tester. 2 I have used a scanning electron microscope for fiber membranes in my research project. You must already be aware of the principle: a very fine electron beam is used to scan the surface of the sample, and the secondary electrons generated are collected by a special detector; these electrons are then converted into electrical signals that are sent to a cathode ray tube, where they cause an image of the object to appear on the fluorescent screen. The three-dimensional structure of the surface of (cells, tissues) can be photographed. During sample preparation, following your method will certainly not lead to success. Scanning electron microscope samples need to be fixed using substances such as glutaraldehyde and formic acid; after dehydration and critical point drying, a thin layer of conductive film (made of materials such as C, Au, Pt, etc.) is sprayed onto the sample surface in order to increase the number of secondary electrons.
