When the calcium carbide was first introduced into the plant, its gas generation rate was around 287. However, a sample taken from the container holding the calcium carbide after a few days of feeding showed a gas generation rate of over 270. This situation persisted; could there be such a large difference? Has anyone encountered this phenomenon? Please help to provide an explanation
It might be related to sampling; let’s reconfirm the sampling method.
Take a close look at the sampled specimens and it will become clear. If the sample retrieved for the second time contains more ash, the difference in gas generation volume can be in the tens, not just the teens.
There is a problem with sampling; under normal circumstances, the difference should not be significant.
I’m not sure whether the poster is using packaged calcium carbide or bulk calcium carbide. If it’s packaged calcium carbide, the impact might not be significant; any differences would indicate a problem with the sampling. If it’s bulk calcium carbide, then why leave it for several days? Bulk calcium carbide is usually used right after it arrives at the factory, and leaving it for too long could cause it to become powdered, which in turn might affect the analysis results.

Possible reasons: 1. Calcium carbide reacts and decomposes when it comes into contact with moisture in the air, resulting in a decrease in gas generation; 2. Calcium carbide is a solid, and its sampling representation is relatively poor.
We use bulk calcium carbide, purchased from other regions; it’s not possible to use it as soon as it arrives, and some of it ends up in stock for several days
