Due to design flaws in the factory building, our company’s control room currently serves as a meeting space for the production teams as well, which violates the management regulations for DCS control rooms: for example, unauthorized persons are not allowed to enter, slippers must be worn when entering the control room, and the room temperature must be maintained at a constant level. Today I saw the instrumentation staff open the electrical control cabinet; there was a lot of dust on the circuit boards and wires inside, and it was only possible to clean them with compressed air, but the effect was minimal. Special vacuuming devices and soot blowing devices, along with electrostatic adsorption devices, can be used.
A vacuum cleaner can be used, provided that proper static electricity protection measures are taken; a soft brush can also be used to remove dust. It is not allowed to clean electronic components while they are charged, and a fan should be used for cleaning instead.
Personally, I think it’s necessary to seal the inlet openings of the cable trays with fireproof putty in order to reduce the amount of dust that gets in and to keep the floor clean. Use a vacuum cleaner, brushes, and wet cloths (without any water droplets, mainly to clean the surface of the cabinets) to remove dust and maintain cleanliness. Additionally, there is a lot of dust in the fan units; cleaning them directly can cause dust to fall inside the cabinets, where it will still be sucked up by the fans. There are covers at the bottom of the cabinets, so try to install them over all the inlet openings. In short, reduce dust from entering at the source, thoroughly remove existing dust using a vacuum cleaner, and keep cleaning regularly!
It is recommended to discuss this with the management: separate the control room from the meeting room and implement proper sealing measures, which will help reduce cleaning issues significantly. There are many ways to clean: vacuums, brushes, liquid cleaners (some of which can be used for electrostatic cleaning). Of course, it’s best to clean when the machine is shut down. The most important thing is anti-static protection; generally, anti-static flooring is used for this purpose, but be sure to wear anti-static wristbands to prevent static electricity from damaging the components.
