Hello, sea friends! Our factory requires, per the drawings for container manufacturing, helium leak testing to be carried out after the hydrostatic test, using H2 and HCL as the testing gases. But what was carried out during execution was an ammonia permeability test. May I ask: what are the disadvantages of such a substitution?

Helium leak detection is more sensitive than ammonia leak detection, but it cannot identify the location of the leak; it can only determine whether there is a leak or not. Therefore, if there is sufficient confidence in the quality of the equipment, helium leak detection can be used as a substitute for ammonia leak detection. Otherwise, if a leak is detected using helium detection, it is still necessary to use ammonia leak detection to locate the leak, which is not cost-effective. In my opinion, such substitution should be done with caution.
Helium leak detection has high sensitivity, and it does not pose a risk of corrosion to the equipment.
