It is a process pipeline with an operating pressure of 0.3 MPa. The safety valve designed by the design institute has a setting pressure of 0.32 MPa; after safety verification, it will activate as soon as the operating pressure reaches 0.26 MPa. May I ask: Is it the fact that the set pressure of the safety valve is too low, or is the calibration pressure of the safety valve too low? What should the normal values be?
Did the safety inspection agency not ask you about your normal operating pressure when checking the pressure? When I sent the safety valve to the calibration facility, they made several calls to ask about our operating pressure. But it can be sent over again to be adjusted.
Set the takeoff pressure low; reset the pressure
The operating pressure is 3 kg/cm2, while the setting for the safety valve (design pressure) is set at only 3.2 kg/cm2, which seems too low. Generally, the design pressure for pipelines is about 2 kg/cm2 higher than the operating pressure. That’s one issue. Additionally, the fact that the valve activates at 2.6 kg/cm2 indicates a problem with the setting, and it should be sent back for reconfiguration. I recommend increasing the design pressure.
The pressure sequence from highest to lowest is: design pressure > safety valve opening pressure > operating pressure. The calibration pressure of the safety valve is too low; it needs to be recalibrated to 0.32 MPa. It is possible to discuss with the design team the design pressure of the pipeline as well as the safety valve opening pressure, to see if it is feasible to increase the latter – of course, this requires the consent of the design team for any changes.
It can be reset simply, but the actual operating pressure must be specified. The setting pressure of the safety valve should generally be 1.05 times the operating pressure; it shouldn’t be too high, nor should it equal the design pressure.
The takeoff pressure is set too low, or there is a problem with the safety valve.
The issue lies with the set pressure of the safety valve; generally, the operating pressure should be at least 90% lower than the set pressure, otherwise the safety valve cannot close properly. Additionally, if the operating pressure is too close to the set pressure, even slight fluctuations in pressure can cause the safety valve to activate frequently. The launch pressure is way too low; everything leaks out, bro! Set the launch pressure above the operating pressure and below the design pressure, hehe!

However, I think the safe backpressure (the pressure in the pipeline network of the flare system; it can be ignored in the case of direct venting to the sky) also needs to be considered, and this seems to be an important aspect that everyone has overlooked.
The set pressure is generally determined by the design pressure of your protective equipment or pipelines. If the set pressure is lower than the operating pressure, there is definitely a problem. Based on your operating conditions, it seems that the set pressure can be increased; otherwise, it would be wasteful for the system to activate just due to minor fluctuations. For the backpressure issue, the valve type of the safety valve should be considered

The operating pressure should be below 90% of the starting pressure. So a takeoff pressure of 3.2 is a bit low. In addition, it is important to note whether it is gauge pressure or absolute pressure; detailed considerations are also crucial

The safety valve itself has a operating pressure; just like pipeline valves, it is much higher than the normal operating pressure; If the setting pressure for the safety valve to activate is lower than the actual pressure at which it activates, this indicates two problems: either the setting pressure is incorrect, or there is an issue with the quality of the safety valve itself. Choose a qualified institution to inspect the safety valve. It can verify that the pressure reached during testing is sufficient for a normal launch!
Perhaps the takeoff pressure was set too low, or no calibration test was performed.
Due to issues with the verification agency, re-verification is required. It is also possible that the safety valve has been in use for too long and its spring no longer has sufficient strength; in such a case, the valve should be replaced.
