Can welded pipe fittings be cut off and reused? Are there any specific requirements or standards for this?
If the cut weldment meets the design and technical requirements of the equipment (such as wall thickness, material, etc.), it can be used a second time. The RI elbows for the 1207 pipes in our company’s urea synthesis tower are being used for the second time; although their wall thickness has decreased, it still meets the minimum wall thickness requirements for the installation. Since there is no standard in place for this, caution must be exercised when using them.
Yes, it’s best to perform a spectral analysis before use to determine the material type and to check that there are no defects such as significant thinning in the thickness measurement area; also make sure to cut away the heat-affected zone resulting from the previous welding.
There are no standard requirements; after cutting it off, it must be polished before welding can take place. There won’t be much change in the angle. This is the method we use for rectifying projects at our factory
It is best to keep the distance between the two welds at 5D, where D is the width of the weld, in order to prevent the heat-affected zone of the welds from overheating again and affecting the strength of the material
It’s completely possible; the main thing to pay attention to is the cutting process. For stainless steel, it’s best to use an abrasive wheel for cutting, and care should be taken regarding the cutting surface as well as the area that gets heated.
