Solutions to prevent wax formation in methanol cold traps: 1. Purify the gas to avoid excessive levels of H2 and NH3 at the system inlet; improve the quality of compressed oil and water, and carry out regular water replacement in the ammonia scrubber as required. 2. During normal operation, minimize the temperature difference across the beds and maintain the boiler outlet temperature between 190–195°C, with the catalyst temperature within the specified range; ensure that the temperature at point 6 is not lower than that at point 12; if it is lower, reduce the inlet CO2 level slightly. 3. When the system is shut down, start the circulation pump to maintain circulation. Use an electric heater to keep the operating temperature stable, and close the water supply valve to the cold trap until no CO is present in the gas flowing after the alcohol stage; then turn off the heater and the circulation pump. 4. If the shutdown lasts more than four hours, displace the air with H2 and N2 gases to put the system in standby mode. 5. When raising the system temperature, close the water supply valve to the cold trap and increase the inlet temperature of the cold trap in order to dissolve wax. 6. When starting or stopping the system, close the water supply valve to the cold trap to reduce the levels of CO and CO2, thereby facilitating wax dissolution.
