I’ve heard that Austenitic stainless steel pipes are not resistant to acids containing chlorine, but in the food industry I work in, all CIP pipes are made of 304 steel. Hypochlorous acid is used for CIP cleaning, and isn’t hypochlorous acid containing chlorine ions? Why doesn’t it corrode 304 tubes? The concentration of HClO is generally used at 1.5~2.5%.
The cleaning time is short, but there are long-term problems.
