What do protecting field subst stems mean in the PLC to DCS connection?

Regarding the connection from the PLC interface to the DCS: Certain Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) that control/protect field substations will need to be connected to the DCS. FYI: Certain Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) that control/protect field sub-systems will need to be interfaced to the DCS. Some PLCs that are used to control/protect field sub-control circuits must be connected to the DCS.
Branch stems in the protection area need to be used on DCS.
