Hello, everyone! I have some questions regarding an example problem in Chapter 1, Material and Energy Balance, of the Tianjin University edition (for professionals). I would appreciate it if someone could help answer them. Thank you! The solution process for example 1.1-13 seems to be somewhat inconsistent with the problem statement (in my opinion). The yield of 95% for nitrochlorobenzene mentioned in the question conflicts with the assumption that no side reactions occur during the reaction, which in turn affects the subsequent solution approach and reasoning. Regarding this point, I feel that the solution process doesn’t quite match the question’s requirements (I’m a bit confused). I hope experts can provide an explanation; thank you! The low yield is not entirely due to side reactions; there are also losses caused by residues on the reactor walls and in the circulation pipes. That’s probably what this question is referring to!
But during the problem-solving process, why wasn’t the conversion rate of chlorobenzene taken into account? In the first formula, the amount of industrial chlorobenzene added per hour is 413.5/0.992 = 416.8 kg. This takes into account the conversion of chlorobenzene to industrial chlorobenzene; however, the overall conversion rate of chlorobenzene in the entire reaction, which is 99.2%, is not taken into consideration in this calculation. Is there an issue with this approach to solving the problem (in my opinion)? I hope everyone can help answer it. Thank you all!
