What is an appropriate level of CO content in methanol synthesis gas? Is it better to have a higher CO2 content?
It seems quite simple: CO costs between 28.5 and 29.5, while CO2 is only around 2.5. The main reactants are CO and H2; the presence of CO2 serves to protect the catalyst, stabilize the reaction, and prevent the formation of by-products
The main reaction is CO + H2; CO2 plays a role in stabilizing the reaction and suppressing the formation of by-products, but this effect is reduced at high methanol concentrations.
