It is harmful to the coal in the first and second stage furnaces; it reduces the catalyst’s activity and decreases its effective surface area. There is no definite value for the lowest temperature at which methane carbon deposition occurs. It’s just that carbon precipitation becomes more severe when the temperature drops below 660 degrees.
At 330°C and with 10 tons of medium-pressure steam, when feed gas is introduced, carbon deposition will definitely occur on the catalyst in the first stage of the furnace. Under these temperature conditions, the conversion of methane vapor does not take place at all; the active temperature for all hydrocarbon vapor conversion catalysts, whether those in the first or second stage, cannot be that low. As a result, methane undergoes cracking reactions, leading to the formation of elemental carbon, which in turn affects the catalyst’s activity. Current low-temperature active catalysts generally require a minimum temperature of 650 degrees Celsius for methane to be introduced at the time of feeding. It had been above 700°C before. As for the lowest temperature for the carbon deposition reaction you mentioned, it’s not fixed, because carbon deposition is not a single specific reaction; there are many reactions that can result in the formation of carbon. Additionally, the amount of feed gas supplied and the composition of that gas also have an impact. Therefore, in normal production, it is necessary to keep the water-to-carbon ratio from dropping too low; generally, it should be no less than 2.5. Additionally, during the feeding process in a certain section of the furnace while the plant is operating, the water-to-carbon ratio must be higher than that under normal operating conditions, and feeding should take place at temperatures above the catalyst’s active temperature.
