Wastewater treatment is difficult, and preparing wastewater is just as challenging, similar to preparing seawater. The best method is to collect wastewater samples on-site from different manufacturers.
It’s also a hassle to go collect the wastewater! The wastewater received may not necessarily be something that your flocculant can handle. It would be best to be able to prepare whatever type of wastewater is desired, which would also make the characterization of flocculants easier. If the goal is to test whether a flocculant works for a certain factory, it’s of course better to use the factory’s wastewater.
Firstly, cationic polyacrylamide (PAM) is rarely used to treat wastewater, unless it is special wastewater; cationic PAM is generally used for sludge treatment. PAM, which is commonly used for wastewater treatment, is anionic, making it easy to prepare for wastewater use. If using cationic PAM to treat wastewater, it is necessary to know the main pollutants in the wastewater or the primary substances that are formed, so as to facilitate the preparation process. Therefore, you must determine what type of wastewater you are dealing with before proceeding with the preparation.
Since it is difficult to conduct a complete analysis of the various substances present in industrial wastewater, it is impossible to create water with properties identical to those of actual industrial wastewater. It is manageable if only the main components are considered, but in some cases, trace impurities present in the wastewater can have an impact on the wastewater treatment process; therefore, it is recommended to take samples on-site for testing.
