Through the hydrogenation of coal tar, various products such as diesel, gasoline, and liquefied petroleum gas are manufactured, while active semi-coke and sulfur are produced as by-products. This production technology is listed in Document No. Ke Fa Zheng Zi [2007] 106 issued by six ministries and commissions including the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Finance, as one of the **4 key areas of focus for “new generation coal-substituting (energy) chemical technologies for the clean and efficient development and utilization of coal” over the next 5 years. Once operational, the project will be able to process 1.2 million tons of raw coal per year, producing 82,000 tons of diesel, 23,000 tons of gasoline, and 720,000 tons of semi-coke.
